I've learned to play well enough that I went to my first rehearsal for a local community band last night - very pleasant, kind folks, and when I told them some of the music looked too hard for me, and some of the passages too long for the endurance I currently have, they said, "if you can't play it, just leave it out." That worked well for me - this was the first time I've sat and played for more than an hour at a stretch. (I feel quite accomplished, I must say.)
One score says, "muted" and then a bit later, "open." I've never owned or used a french horn mute before. I'd appreciate a bit of guidance as to what to ask for - there seems to be more than one kind of horn mute. Is a "straight" mute what I want? If anyone on the list has one they're not using that works and would like to sell it to me, please contact me privately. Since I'm hoping my son is going to join me in this community band, I'll actually need two of them, one for him. Are straight mutes "one size fits all" or does one get a mute in different sizes to accomodate different horns? My son is playing a relatively small-belled horn, a Yamaha 567, and I'm playing a pretty big one, a Yamaha 666. Thanks, folks. -S- _______________________________________________ post: [email protected] unsubscribe or set options at http://music.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org
