Hey folks, hope the move to meetup.com goes well for you. That has been a
challenge for some groups, especially when as you say here you won't be
auto-importing the members, so people have to join themselves. And it's all
the more a challenge when mention of the move is in a note like this,
covering other things. That's part of why I'm replying, to help the call to
action stand out.

Indeed, I'll propose that you'll want to make sure to make multiple
announcements about this over weeks or months, that clearly stand out with
such a call to action, before you'd turn off this old mailing list.
Otherwise you may find many get lost in the shuffle and don't make the move,
not because they were "inactive and uninterested" but because they may argue
they just "didn't get the memo". :-)

I've seen this happen on other groups who've made the move, so just a
friendly suggestion. :-)

Subject: [houcfug] Next meeting and some changes!

We'll be meeting this Wednesday, April 18. This will be our first meeting in
our new facility, CTREC Hilton IT Academy. They are located in the Galleria
area, just off of 59 and Hillcroft.

It's a very nice facility: huge kitchen, coffee service, and use of a
training room for meetings, comfortably seating 16-32 attendees. Each
workstation has a monitor where the presentation is displayed - no straining
your eyes to see a projection. Every room of course has WiFi and power
setups. The best part: Air Conditioning!

I'd like to take the time to thank Seth and MD Anderson for graciously
hosting our meetings.

The address:

Ctrec Hilton It Academy
6200 Savoy Dr #1000
Houston, TX

You can view a map and full information at our website at www.houcfug.org.
Oh yeah, speaking of the website...

As we discussed in our last meeting, we are moving the website over to
Meetup.com. We of course were hosting our own site, and it was a CF app, but
there were some improvements we needed. Could we build it? Yeah, we're
filled with CF talent, but we also have billable hours and families to deal
with, so the best solution was Meetup, as it has all the features we want
(well, there's things I'd change, but it's a great solution nonetheless).

Rather than import our old member list from the site, I'd like everyone to
register and RSVP at the new site. This helps us, and our sponsors Paladin,
with planning. Active RSVPs also make the group seem more alive and
accessible to newcomers. (Many of you likely already have a Meetup account
if you've RSVP'ed for CFMeetup.com talks)

As always, Paladin will be sponsoring our meeting, providing food and
drinks. Paladin is a great staffing organization, and has actually already
placed a number of developers within our group. I should also point out that
Paladin connected us up with CTREC, a client of theirs.

If that wasn't enough, our meeting will be our first remote presentation
that I recall. Pete Freitag, one of the premiere security experts in
ColdFuion, will be presenting. You may recall Pete as the author of Adobe's
CF9 security lockdown guide.
fusion/pdfs/91025512-cf9-lockdownguide-wp-ue.pdf) We'll be giving away a
year subscription to HackMyCF, a service that Pete's company Foundeo
provides. It monitors your ColdFusion or Railo server and provides reports
on potential vulnerabilities that need to be addressed. I'm running it on my
primary client's server; I recommend it.

Whew! That was a lot to say. I hope to see all of you there!
