Just an FYI: assembla does indeed still offer free levels of service, but as
is often the case with such tools/services, they don't make it stand out.
:-)

First, if you go just to the pricing page (https://www.assembla.com/plans),
they don't show anything but paid plans.

But below that grid , notice the link: Team Workspaces are always free for
public projects. Create a free public project now
<https://www.assembla.com/one_page_signup?space_type=public> .

Second, on the front page (https://www.assembla.com/) and many others, they
also mention (near the bottom third of the page, not visible in most
monitors without paging down) that they have "Simple Free Starter Offers".

Not that I knock them trying to push people to paid services. Just wanting
to share this if anyone was in fact looking for free SVN, Git, or perforce
hosting. :-)

I think it would be a good idea to have something like that as a shared
resource for our group to use.

We aren't using it now, but having a central location to host projects could
be useful someday maybe?

Of course, that is probably just the voice of my inner hoarder... ;)

Greetings,

I got an email from Assembla this morning asking me to take a look at an old
project to see if I wanted to continue it or not. This was for the HouCFUG
website redesign we were looking at doing a few years ago. It seems that any
inactive accounts and projects are going to be deleted on Feb. 1, 2013.

Any reason why this should be kept going? Or maybe it could be repurposed if
someone has a new project they'd like to use it for?
