Hi Folks, I am not so sure if I did the right thing or not at a month away from 2007 with all the new technology in the pipeline.
I just purchased a DJ 130 I did this because I have heard the quality of the prints are very , very nice. And it has been compared to the 4800 or 7800 for the size. I have often printed from the 7800, and I really love the solid accuracy in color results. The Luster paper has been a nice semi gloss finish I like. In fact I was very close to getting the 3800 or 4800 instead of the 130. The fact that the HP has few clogged head issues, and if need be a head can be replaced. I thought I was in the right direction with the HP. I have owned all Epson til now. But the reason I didn't is because I do 95-98% color prints. And usually they are for proofs of prepress work. they are usually 13x19. So I figure for half the price of the 4800, I could have 24 inch prints to look at and offer prints of to customers of some images. I don't think I will be loading any canvas in it. Most likely Satin or Semi gloss, and occasianlly some semi matte if HP has. I would rather stay with long lasting inks for larger prints, and I really don't mind spraying them down with a Fixative to lock in the colors. some kind of matte spray fix. Often in the fine arts field we used to use plain old HAIRSPRAY for holding charcoal to the paper, and it worked well. I dont think that would work so well here...hehe. But I am glad to join this group, in hopes of some guidence as to what to avoid, and what to really try to enjoy my new printer for a long trouble free life. One thing that came to mind is...since I would be using it mainly for proofing...If a head does go bad, would that mean I have to recalibrate all my profiles for all papers? I ask this since someone mentioned it. But I couldnt understand why a print head would have any influence as to color and software info being fed to the print head. I would think a print head just spits out the info it has been configured to output. Any welcoming thoughts and info for me would be very welcome, and hope I made the right choice by purchasing this printer, as it is the largest some of money I have put into a computer peripheral/Printer. Also, for CMYK, do you guys recommend a RIP?...as someone mentioned a good profile is all you need and no RIP required. I checked out PosterJet Photo Ed. and at $600, sounds like the entry level that only prints TIF and JPG, not PSD orPDF. I install my printer tomorrow! Any tips and Ideas? much appreciated! Cheers!
