Folks, I have to say, I am new to HP for photo. Lots of lasre for office, but new to inkjet on HP.
After getting the head issue resolved by restarting the printer, I tried to calibrate the paper and print and it was a dark muddy, heavy lay of ink. Then I tried the ICM with a ICC PPlus Satin -Drv and only let Photoshop handle the color management. Mind you all this time I have been looking at a HP sample of my image and looking at the 7800 sample....I was rather discouraged, and my ho0pes were minimal. Thanks when I started asking for more help here. My personal test with my image on my 130 came out and I was a HAPPY MAN! My print with ICM was MUCH better than the sample, 1.the details in the shadows were more revealing than my 7800( a touch more than original). 2. Color accuracy was VERY GOOD. It still had some cyan in the black, but not so much as my sample. flesh was much more fleshy, less cyan less red(maybe too little), less yellow(still too much). 3. The resolution looks GREAT. The supplied HP sample, doesnt look AS sharp. The zipper area shows a sharper result on my test print. This could be due to the head allighnment or maybe something is off on the machine they have.? One thing I dont know what to say about is that my black solid area is all peppery, as if the ink didn't saturate the paper, and left a cast of faded blck in some areas. My HP sample doesnt show this. Maybe it is the first output, and I will try again today. So...I am much happier now, than I was when I looked at the HP sent sample vs the 7800 sample. The 7800 still looks a bit more "mature", Im not sure how to describe that, but maybe its the yellow in the flesh, and the cyan in the blacks. Also to note...that the details that did come up on my sample, do have a slight "seperation", meaning from solid black to the detail to show up, is not as smooth a transition. I will not make any conclusions about this printer until I have tested it with different settings and I hope the samples I get from RIPs will show even a better result. Thanks to everyone here for sticking around to know the progress and helping me get closer. As maybe some others when making a $1299 purchase, which is a good deal of change for me, My excitement about getting this printer running was evident on the forum. I think the HP sample is something that could negatively atact the abilities of the printer. THe HP Sample makers were very on top of things, and super helpful people in printing my image and getting it to me timely. But I do believe they need to keep better QC on the machines sending out samples. If I didn't have faith in the HP machine it would have gone right back because of the sample. I will post more later with more tests. THank you all again!
