I think you would greatly benifit from a custom ICC. I ran into this issue myself. If you read my posts, you will see the hoops and closed loops I had to jump through. There are a number of Profile makers. I suggest you start there. And as far as HP support stepping you thru.....I don't know what that means...but you should read up on applying profiles, and what settings in CS2 to use, as well as calibrating the HP...etc.
When I first used my printer I was pretty upset. Then realized you have to calibrate the HP driver to the paper, then I was a little less upset, but not happy, then I got a custom profile...pretty happy...then got a RIP...very happy.
