After much research I returned the HP DJ130 and spent more on the Epson 4800. Of course, the determining factor was my printing on art media. I don't do a lot of glossy. Premium Luster and Pearl is as far as I go on photo paper. I stock a roll of glossy, but only for special orders.
Even when I did fiber based silver prints, didn't get into glossy (Anyone want to buy an Arkay Dual-Dri?). The pearl/luster color prints are lovely, and match the intensity of my Epson 1280 dye-based printer. There is noticeable bronzing/variable surface reflection at highlights (i.e., pearl necklace, small areas of skin), but it is only seen when the print is viewed at an oblique angle and a strong light source. While Epson K3 doesn't have all the gamut of the new HPs and other 12 color systems, it has better 'chroma' in the dark/shadow areas of the print. As one reviewer suggested, all modern 2006/2007 professional printers make great prints. Your main concern is value added features, such as the HP spectrophotometer and gloss optimizer. ____________________________________________________________________________________ It's here!
