I have used all types of cartridges including after market ones. We even have a continuous ink system we are testing now. There doesn't seem to be any significant pattern to the failed printheads only that it almost never happens with black.

I went through lots of heads until I found this out. You didn't mention the pattern of head failures in your machines.
