Drop detect sensor, part of the service station. It's a slot to the right of
the capping area. It works by looking across the gap with IR light and a
reciver on the other side and when ink sprays down into it the drops cause a
break in the light so it knows if a cartridge is spraying but that area can
clog. You need to run some swabs down the slot and clean the excess out.
Also in the menus you can turn cartridge checking off and when you see the
ink is weak you change whichever is bad.

BTW the 600/650C line is one of the biggest "no longer available" machines
there are now, HP wants to make them obsolete by lack of parts sources. You
can find parts like belts, service stations, etc but you have to be patient
and scour ebay regularly. Last belt I got I had to get from England.

  Subject: [HPDesignJet_Printers] DJ 650C....Bad cartridges??

When my DJ 650C goes thru the alignment and POST it says to replace the
yellow cartridge, so I did. Replaced with a brand new one and still
says that it is bad. Also have the same problem with a DJ
600 ...except it doesn't like the right hand cartridge..a number 26
black. I have tested the trailing cables and they seem fine. Any
other things to check?? Thanks for the help.
