Bob and River,
Your replacement carriage could be faulty- or your cyan cartridge may be
the culprit. Which cartridges have you replaced? Sometimes one bad
cartridge and it could be any will cause these errors. Make sure the
contacts on all your cartridges are clean - wipe down with damp cloth.
Usually the trailing cables work well until they crack - . Bob has
mentioned crosstalk and this is least likely in the cable itself but most
likely in the carriage where say a faulty yellow maybe reported as a faulty
magenta.
So if you have replaced all cartridges including the black and you still
have problems then the carriage is the next likely cause but most expensive
and difficult to source followed by trailing cable and then main board.
Because of the age of these printers the trailing cables are likely to give
trouble with cracking. In many cases you'll be able to see it if you get a
good light onto the cable clean it up and inspect it carefully. Move the
carriage from end to the other with power off . Check the areas of the
cable where it has been flexing most. If you see a dark spot on the cable
that won't clean off run you finger over it, if it feels rough it could be
a break. If you are going to use a meter to check cable continuity remember
to check it in the postion with carriage docked - when a conductor/s crack
in these cables they tend to make and break depending on the postion of the
cable.
I have an HP 650C carriage, trailing cable and mainboard for sale if you
are interested to try these to solve the issue. Can't guarantee they'll
work but money back if they don't.
Regards David
