I would suggest a used HP LJ4000 or LJ4100 series. If you need to do 11x17, LJ5000, LJ5SI, LJ8000, or LJ8150 The HP Canon engine based printers are truly workhorses. They will still be working and maintainable 10 years from now. You can find these on E-Bay and others for a fraction of their original cost. Also, there are more computer "recyclers" that sell used printers. Anybody who services HP in your area can probably come up with a good used printer. I would suggest a color laser for color work only. The per page cost for a color laser is much higher. Problems show up much faster in color printers and are much more expensive to correct. Everything is a consumable and expensive. Meanwhile an B&W laser will be cranking out thousands of pages with 1 black toner cartridge.
