Hi John When an ink cart goes totally dry, the entire column of segments for that color flashes. Plus the printer beeps and stops printing.
Also: Never had a color problem when changing ink mid-print. Also: I recalibrate when I replace a print head. Haven't been recalibrating when I change ink carts. Perhaps I should, but not doing so hasn't been a noticeable problem. I sure do heart this printer.
