Not so long ago I did the firmware update you refer to.
The issue so far was that the Windows install application 
didn't work properly, the Mac version worked all the time. 
Right now both function.

I see a general complaint that papers have to be 
recalibrated after the firmware update and that the 
calibration doesn't work then for one reason or another. 
Powering down and up of the printer solves the last issue in 
my case and that of others. It's in general a good remedy 
for vague issues.
