This looks like a foomatic-rip filter issue since the "gs" command is
missing in your cups error log. Here are some things to check.

1. Are there multiple copies of foomatic-rip in your PATH? Should be in
/usr/bin/foomatic-rip only. 

2. Foomatic-rip should be version 3.43.2.15 or higher. 

3. HPLIP 0.9.10 tar ball installs foomatic-rip v3.43.2.15. Make sure
foomatic-rip is not corrupted some how.
