Hi,

I have a redhat 7.3 system (2.4.18-3). I just downloaded hplip-0.9.10
in hopes of building it and printing from my redhat system to my
hp 7210.

Here are my issues, and thanks in advance to anybody for any advice
or suggestions on what to try or do:

(1) If i run ./configure, the configure fails with message
cannot find net-snmp support (or --disable-network-build)

But --disable-network-build does make the ./configure work.

However, will any product built fail because of the
--disable-network-build flag? (I do need to use the printer
    on a network.)

(2) When i attempt to make after the configure, it bombs out in
    io/hpiod/device.cpp line 627 (`usb_get_string_simple' undeclared).

This is using gcc 3.3 (with which i've compiled many other
programs without incident). (gcc 2.96 bombs out much sooner,
    in scan/sane/hpaio.c, line 1637.)

Do i need a later gcc, or maybe to give more advice to the
make (or configure)? (I did the make with a command like
    "CC=/path/to/gcc3.3 make".)

(3) Just to check the path to the printer, i'd like to build or
download hpijs, as it is frequently referred to as just giving
    a simple printer interface.

But links to hpijs generally point to the sourceforge page
http://hplip.sourceforge.net/, which seems to only have the
total hplip package (i.e., i'd like a small tarball consisting
of only hpijs, but can't seem to find it).

Thanks in advance for any help, suggestions, advice, corrections
etc on these three issues.

dan
