Hi all,
I just purchased an HP Officejet 6310xi on sale at Costco. HPLIP latest
(.9.10) does not support it. I tried to tell hp-setup that it was
actually a 6200 series printer, but your application is too smart for
its own good.
So I hacked HPLIP and got it working :-) Here's what I did:
First, I found the 6200 PPD file, edited it by changing all references
to 6200 to 6300, saved it as a 6300 PPD file, configured maked and make
installed. No dice of course. Couldn't possibly be that easy. So then
I grep'd for "6200" in the source tree. I edited djgenericvip.h and
dj3320.h and added "6300\0" after every occurrence of "6200\0". Then I
edited models.xml, copied the 6200 family section and made a 6300
section. configure, make, make install, restart servers and voila, she
prints and scans! I haven't tried out the fax functionality yet, though.
If you want me to contribute a patch I will, but I think you'd rather
actually research the printer and put the right parameters in and stuff.
I don't know jack about printing hardware, so I'm sure that my
hack-o-rama would cause someone pain somewhere.
Also, if you could, please add support for the copier functionality.
Thanks!
We will try to get this addressed in the next release (due any day now...).
Thanks,
-Don
