xsane will use the hpiod backend.
HPLIP installs a backend (hp://) for use in CUPS.
What information are you looking for exactly? I've tested the PSC1410 a
large number of times and it works great. You'll want to review the
install instructions on the hplip.sf.net website for specific
information on installing HPLIP and the printer. But it (should be) a
very simple process.
