sure. Actually this is not necessairy since you can do it by
yourself.
Assuming you have a Debian based machine, download and install
checkinstall in no time (with rpm-based Distros act accordingly)

Then within the hplip directory you issue
1.configure --prefix=/usr
2.make
and then:
3. (as root) checkinstall -D -d1
-D means "create a Debian type package", -R would mean "create an
rpm-package"
-d1 means "set debug level to 1" (needed just for tracking
purposes, normally not used.

What happens is that you are flooded with positive debug
information and you finally end in this:
....
Selecting previously deselected package hplip-1.6.6a.
(Reading database ... 189417 files and directories currently
installed.) Unpacking hplip-1.6.6a
(from .../hplip-1.6.6a_1.6.6a-1_i386.deb) ... dpkg: error
processing
/home/eroloff/download/software/hp_laserjet/hplip-1.6.6a/hplip-1.6.6a_1.6.6a-1_i386.deb
(--install): trying to overwrite `/usr/bin/hpijs', which is also
in package hpijs dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal
(Broken pipe) Errors were encountered while
processing:
/home/eroloff/download/software/hp_laserjet/hplip-1.6.6a/hplip-1.6.6a_1.6.6a-1_i386.deb

When I was working with suse, it did not install either, but
having no suse anymore, I am sorry that I cannot provide you with
debug information. I am sure the Suse people on this list will
be able to do so.

I would be happy, if you let me know, what
information you need on top.

kind regards

Eberhard
