I have added a time/date update that occurs when faxes are sent by the hp-sendfax tool (for HPLIP 1.6.10).

Is this sufficient for your needs? I could also whip up a small tool that forces the update any time.

OK, I'll add this to my TODO list and let you know what I figure out.

All the options you mentioned are nice ;) I guess most flexible would be
to have a possibility to update it with the command line. To make it
more "automatic" I think syncing when printing or running the toolbox
would be a good idea, too.

I'm not very familiar with HPLIB, as I don't own an OfficeJet yet, but
as far as I could see from the docs, the toolbox is a gui tool, isn't
it? In this case I think it wouldn't be sufficient to have the device
sychronized when opening the toolbox, as this would make things less
flexible. E.g. in my case the OfficeJet should be connected to a server,
without gui, and the perfect behaviour would be a periodical sync with a
cronjob.

I don't really "know" what the windows driver does, but I read that it's
updated when the device is plugged in - I can't say if this only happens
when the time isn't setup in the OfficeJet, or if this is done every
time. There also seems to be an option in the tools to sync the time
manually, at least I read this somewhere in the officejet docs... (not
the manual itself, but somewhere on hp.com - don't remember where exactly)
