Hi,

from my experience, the installer simplifies the setup greatly. 

However, I cannot
report how it works on a freshly default installed system, since
I used the previous versions on my systems. So, quite naturally,
any dependencies have been met.

I slightly disagree on Alan's view. Imho Hplip is
by far the best solution to make (nearly) anything possible that
is possible on Windows.
The fact that the install takes longer sometimes is due to the
sometimes very complex nature of Linux and it is also
complicated by the diverse landscape of having dozens of
different Linux flavours available.
And the very good documentation alongside with the great support
on this list really make the installation very simple, most of
the time.


All in all, I would say, that you did indeed a great job, even
better, when you take the rather hostile environment into the
calculation.
