I've tested extensively with dapper and never had this problem. Did you install firestarter or anything of the sort? Maybe it's a firewall problem?

The version of the hplip package is 0.9.7-4ubuntu1

What do you think about the fact that hplip sees a connection attempt
from 192.168.0.1 instead of from 127.0.0.1? Is this a bug in the
library local applications use to connect to hplip?

What distro are you using? What version of HPLIP?

I haven't seen that this was needed before.

Hello,

I had the same problem with "hpiod: Rejected connection" and found the
reason to be the following: in /etc/hosts there was a line like
127.0.0.1 localhost myhostname

This caused hpiod to resolve the local hostname to a different IP than
the connection comes from (why does it come from 192... and not
127...?).

The cure is to replace the above line by
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.0.1 myhostname

There was also a line 127.0.1.1 myhostname

which I removed (I do not know its meaning)

How did I find out? By using strace -f on hpiod.
