I am running Mandriva 2006 and 2007, and am encountering the same problem with both when printing photos to a PhotoSmart 8450: the prints have two very fine white lines nearly exactly one-third of the way in from each of the long sides (i.e., the lines run the length of the longer sides). Prints look very good otherwise, but this problem makes them unacceptable.
Since this does not happen printing from WindowsXP, it is not a physical/hardware problem with the printer. MDV2006 and 2007 produce identical results, though 2007 has a much newer version of HPLIP. The relevant installed rpms on the 2007 machine (x86_64) are: hplip-1.6.9-1mdv2007.0 hplip-hpijs-1.6.9-1mdv2007.0 hplip-model-data-1.6.9-1mdv2007.0 foomatic-db-hpijs-2.6.7-1.20060828.1mdv2007.0 gutenprint-ijs-5.0.0-2mdv2007.0 lib64ijs1-0.35-47mdv2007.0 CUPS shows this printer set up to use the "Foomatic/hpijs" driver. Printer is attached to LAN. I am attempting to print onto 4x6 photo paper, using various KDE applications. Have tried selecting both 1200dpi options and the "controlled by printout mode" option in the resolution, etc. settings in the KDE printer properties dialog. All identical results. Obviously I could try installing HPLIP version from sourceforge, but not sure how this will interact with MDV version, plus since both 0.9.x and 1.6.9 MDV versions have identical problem, I am skeptical 1.6.10 will fix it. I would appreciate any suggestions for repair, workaround, or further steps to diagnosis issue. Thanks, Norm ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
