I eventually got it to work. Here's how: I can ping the printer, no problem.
With respect to hp-setup, I had some more luck after your instructions: 1. Ran hp-setup 2. Selected Network / Ethernet / Wireless (direct connection or JetDirect) 3. Clicked Next. It said "No devices found." 4. Clicked Find Manually 5. Specified the printer's static IP (192.168.0.106) 6. Came back with 1 device(s) found. HP Photosmart c6100 series. 7. Clicked Next. 8. Confirmed PPD file and clicked Next 9. It must have communicated with the printer because it filled in my fax number and other info. 10. Clicked Next. Then I get a dialog that says: "HP Device Manager - Printer S" Printer queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again. I did as it said - I did /etc/init.d/cups restart and tried the whole thing again. Same error. I repeated the same process and tried unchecking "Setup PC send fax". Same error. The last screen says "Finished Adding Printer" and it says "The printer has been successfully installed on your system. I checked "Send test page to printer" but when I click Finish nothing happens. However, when I then go to Utilities > Printing > Printers from my "Applications" menu, I clicked "New Printer" and added the printer as follows: 1. Printer type: Network printer, HP JetDirect 2. Host: 192.168.0.106 3. Next 4. Manufacturer: HP 5. Model: Photosmart C6100 It then created the printer in the "Printers" window. I was able to set it as my default printer, and then print a test page successfully! I ran a test print from FireFox and everything worked fine. Everything appears to be working now. The only minor issue is that the top margin is always cut off. A test print revealed what was supposed to be 0.5" down the page was actually only 0.25", so everything is shifted up about 0.25". Does anyone know a way to fix this?
