These are the steps I took without updating cups. I can print. Not
trying to scan or anything else.
yum install cups-devel
yum install net-snmp-devel
chkconfig cups on
service restart cups
hp-setup -i PRINTER_IP
Only issue I have is I cannot set the default printer to this one. But I
can live with that at this time.

The steps provided for red hat enterprise should work in the spirit of
CentOS.
The only problem as of right now is that the cups version installed is
old (1.1.22) and you'll need to install the newer version of cups from
cups.org <http://cups.org> for the printer to be able to print.
After speaking with Don it appears you can ping the printer, can you

(although this page is broken right now but will be fixed shortly)
After running the snmpwalk please post the output.
I know that CentOS can work, so I hope this points you in a good
direction.

it says: error Device not found.
Others using windows are printing to this printer.
I then found examples of what the uri should look like.
I went on to printer config and installed with CUPS IPP
and entered the URI of hp:/net/Officejet_7310_series?ip=
192.168.1.125 <http://192.168.1.125>
It did not print a test page and the message I get is:
unable to lookup host 'hp' unkown host.
What else can I do?
