Hello, I am trying to use an HP PSC 2210 multifunction device with a PC running Gentoo Linux. I set it up several months ago, and it worked fine until a couple of weeks ago. Then it started intermittently having the problem, which was fixed by restarting the HPLIP services. Now, however, the problem occurs consistently, every time I try to print. My kernel is release 2.6.17-gentoo-r4 and I am using hplip version 1.6.12, installed using the Gentoo Portage system. The printer is connected by USB.
When I run hp-info for the first time after restarting the HPLIP services (hpiod and hpssd), I get the output as shown in attachment hp-info.txt. hp-levels also works. When I try to print anything (I've tried using hp-print with a simple text file, OpenOffice, and the test page option in cups), the document appears in the cups job list, and nothing happens for a while. Then, the following messages appear in the system log: > Feb 17 15:27:37 [hpiod] unable to write data > hp:/usb/PSC_2200_Series?serial=MY2CHF34TG0G: Resource temporarily unavailable > io/hpiod/channel.cpp 63_ > Feb 17 15:27:37 [PSC_2200_Series?serial=MY2CHF34TG0G] ERROR: ready to print; > will retry in 30 seconds..._ These messages recur every minute until I cancel the print job from in cups. "ready to print; will retry in 30 seconds..." also appears on the cups page. Once this has happened, hp-info gives the following output and then exits: > HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 1.6.12) > Device Information Utility ver. 3.4 > > Copyright (c) 2003-6 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP > This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. > This is free software, and you are welcome to distribute it > under certain conditions. Exiting. This is accompanied by the following messages in the system log: > Feb 17 16:01:45 [hpiod] unable to write data > hp:/usb/PSC_2200_Series?serial=MY2CHF34TG0G: Resource temporarily unavailable > io/hpiod/channel.cpp 63_ > Feb 17 16:01:45 [PSC_2200_Series?serial=MY2CHF34TG0G] ERROR: ready to print; > will retry in 30 seconds..._ > Feb 17 16:01:45 [hpiod] service busy > uri:hp:/usb/PSC_2200_Series?serial=MY2CHF34TG0G Device::ChannelOpen: > HP-MESSAGE io/hpiod/device.cpp 1316_ > Feb 17 16:01:45 [python] hp-info[9314] error: Error opening device (Unknown > internal error). Exiting. > Feb 17 16:06:10 [hpiod] device cleanup > uri=hp:/usb/PSC_2200_Series?serial=MY2CHF34TG0G_ When I cancel the print job, hp-info and hp-levels soon start working again. Scanning also fails - if I try scanimage, there is a fairly long delay, then the following appears in the system log: > Feb 17 16:13:37 [hpiod] unable to read MlcReverseCmd header: Resource > temporarily unavailable_ > Feb 17 16:13:37 [hpiod] invalid MlcCredit from peripheral, trying miser_ After another delay, the following appears: > Feb 17 16:14:22 [hpiod] unable to read MlcReverseCmd header: Resource > temporarily unavailable_ > Feb 17 16:14:22 [hpiod] invalid MlcCredit from peripheral_ > Feb 17 16:14:23 [hpiod] device cleanup > uri=hp:/usb/PSC_2200_Series?serial=MY2CHF34TG0G_ scanimage then gives the following output, and exits: > scanimage: open of device hpaio:/usb/PSC_2200_Series?serial=MY2CHF34TG0G > failed: Error during device I/O I have tried restarting all the HP services and cups, unplugging the printer and plugging it back in again, and even completely restarting the PC, but the problems persists. Can someone please help me? Printing is most important, but it would be good to have scanning working too. Please say if there is any other information that would be helpful in diagnosing my problem. Thanks, Christopher Elsby
