Based on your feedback your system is having USB issues. The hpiod error
"Resource temporarily unavailable" means USB data writes are timing out.
This message comes from the libusb/usbfs.

If you cannot get printing to work, scanning will definitely not work.
This because scanning is more I/O intensive than printing. Printing only
uses "raw" I/O where scanning requires 1284.4/MLC I/O. 

What I'm trying say is debug the print job first, then worry about
scanning. Remove any USB hubs and plug directly into the PC. If you are
not using a hub, try a different USB bus connection on the PC.
