Hello, I am upgrading Debian 3.1 (Sarge) to 4.0 ("Etch") and I use a HP laserjet 2300 over USB. I do not have a command "hp-check", I am using HPlip 1.6.10 what comes with Debian. The printer worked fine with Debian 3.1, but not with 4.0 anymore.
When I print a testpage with Cups I get this error: "open print channel failed; will retry in 30 seconds..." In HP-device manager I see in the status: "code 5031" and "Device is busy". I will attach the "lspci -v" info, and the output of "hp-probe --bus=usb" to the end of this message. I googled and found things like: turn off the printer and reboot the machine. I allready tried that. What could be wrong? With regards, Paul van der Vlis. lsusb -v says about this printer: ---------- Bus 004 Device 002: ID 03f0:0b17 Hewlett-Packard Device Descriptor: bLength 18 bDescriptorType 1 bcdUSB 1.10 bDeviceClass 0 (Defined at Interface level) bDeviceSubClass 0 bDeviceProtocol 0 bMaxPacketSize0 8 idVendor 0x03f0 Hewlett-Packard idProduct 0x0b17 bcdDevice 1.00 iManufacturer 1 Hewlett-Packard iProduct 2 hp LaserJet 2300 series iSerial 3 CNCGK07727 bNumConfigurations 1 Configuration Descriptor: bLength 9 bDescriptorType 2 wTotalLength 78 bNumInterfaces 1 bConfigurationValue 1 iConfiguration 0 bmAttributes 0xc0 Self Powered MaxPower 0mA Interface Descriptor: bLength 9 bDescriptorType 4 bInterfaceNumber 0 bAlternateSetting 0 bNumEndpoints 3 bInterfaceClass 7 Printer bInterfaceSubClass 1 Printer bInterfaceProtocol 3 IEEE 1284.4 compatible bidirectional iInterface 0 Endpoint Descriptor: bLength 7 bDescriptorType 5 bEndpointAddress 0x01 EP 1 OUT bmAttributes 2 Transfer Type Bulk Synch Type None Usage Type Data wMaxPacketSize 0x0040 1x 64 bytes bInterval 0 Endpoint Descriptor: bLength 7 bDescriptorType 5 bEndpointAddress 0x81 EP 1 IN bmAttributes 2 Transfer Type Bulk Synch Type None Usage Type Data wMaxPacketSize 0x0040 1x 64 bytes bInterval 0 Endpoint Descriptor: bLength 7 bDescriptorType 5 bEndpointAddress 0x82 EP 2 IN bmAttributes 3 Transfer Type Interrupt Synch Type None Usage Type Data wMaxPacketSize 0x0008 1x 8 bytes bInterval 255 Interface Descriptor: bLength 9 bDescriptorType 4 bInterfaceNumber 0 bAlternateSetting 1 bNumEndpoints 2 bInterfaceClass 7 Printer bInterfaceSubClass 1 Printer bInterfaceProtocol 2 Bidirectional iInterface 0 Endpoint Descriptor: bLength 7 bDescriptorType 5 bEndpointAddress 0x01 EP 1 OUT bmAttributes 2 Transfer Type Bulk Synch Type None Usage Type Data wMaxPacketSize 0x0040 1x 64 bytes bInterval 0 Endpoint Descriptor: bLength 7 bDescriptorType 5 bEndpointAddress 0x81 EP 1 IN bmAttributes 2 Transfer Type Bulk Synch Type None Usage Type Data wMaxPacketSize 0x0040 1x 64 bytes bInterval 0 Interface Descriptor: bLength 9 bDescriptorType 4 bInterfaceNumber 0 bAlternateSetting 2 bNumEndpoints 1 bInterfaceClass 7 Printer bInterfaceSubClass 1 Printer bInterfaceProtocol 1 Unidirectional iInterface 0 Endpoint Descriptor: bLength 7 bDescriptorType 5 bEndpointAddress 0x01 EP 1 OUT bmAttributes 2 Transfer Type Bulk Synch Type None Usage Type Data wMaxPacketSize 0x0040 1x 64 bytes bInterval 0 Device Status: 0x0001 Self Powered -------------------------- jet2:/proc/bus/usb# hp-probe --bus=usb HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 1.6.10) Printer Discovery Utility ver. 2.2 Copyright (c) 2003-6 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.
