Hi Bobby,
Color LJ 2600 is not currently supported by HPLIP, also, it is nothing
like a 2605 either.
There is a third party driver for this printer and you can find info at
http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/

Unfortunately you are correct, it is an unsupported printer. As the
support pages says,

"Some printers, however, are unsupported. The reasons for this may
include issues with intellectual property, technical issues, or limited
production numbers. Be advised that printers that appear on the
unsupported list may never be supported by HPLIP."

I hate cut and paste answers but there is really nothing else I can tell
you in regards to unsupported printers.
