Hi guys. Anyone else here have an Officejet Pro L7580 and manage to get it working on Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 LTS?
Issues: - I have only really been able to add the printer via hplip interface, i can't just type in ipp://192.168.168.245 via cups web or gtk interfaces as this printer insists on having this connection hp:/net/Officejet_Pro_L7500?ip=192.168.168.245. for that matter i haven't been able to just copy/paste the hp: connection url into cups web or gtk interfaces either. It is entirely possible that I don't fully understand IPP syntax though. So, while it does print if setup via hplip interface just fine, if i establish a connection via jetdirect or unix lpd colour images have their black and white impression printed correctly while the colour is offset by like 2 inches. - I cannot fax, hplip just hangs when sending fax to machine. - I cannot scan as xsane just hangs even if invoked via hplip. I thought I would try an HP device seeing that HPLIP is getting a decent amount of attention and also because Brother does some slightly strange things but I have never had to work this hard to seutp a Brother multifunction or anything else. For brother networked printers just type in the ip address and off we go. At most a little bit of googling usually was all that was required, this last time xsane just couldn't access a device because of udev issue. What is everyone elses thought of these latest HP printers and HPLIP 2.7.7? I know it's an HPLIP help list but I'm hoping to get users opinions here. I will try to set this thing up on Ubuntu Feisty, but I just think I will go back to Brother printers, bloody things just work. Any opinion is greatly appreciated - good broadsection would be extremely usefull. Thank you. - Robert P.S. To any HP devs working on HPLIP let me just say I appreciate the work you are doing and I also appreciate HP'S effort at Linux support. This isn't a complaint thread, I'm trying to wrap my arms around this issue in a big picture sense and then dig into the details to find out why the issues are what they are. Ultimately I want to be able to put HP multifunction unit devices on our companies approved list but so far Brother is just far easier to setup and run on Linux workstations (to which we are migrating to.). ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
