I have a PSC2210, connected to a Linux server (ClarkConnect distro) with
HPLIP, and use it as a network printer and scanner with Windows clients.

Up to now I had no problems, printing and scanning over the network went OK.

Recently I upgraded tot HPLIP 2.7.7. Printing is still fine, but scanning
over the network is not possible anymore.

Searching on the internet I saw several messages about a similar problem,
that was caused by a bug related to the variable "localOnly in the file
hpaio.c. I also noticed that in HPLIP 2.2.7 file hpaio.c has been adjusted
accordingly. But I still cannot scan over the network.

I see the following messages in /var/log/messages:

Aug 10 10:50:32 server saned[4525]: io/hpmud/musb.c 1880: invalid product id
string: Operation not permitted

Aug 10 10:50:32 server saned[4525]: io/hpmud/musb.c 1885: invalid serial id
string: Operation not permitted

Strange thing is, that when I run saned in debug mode (terminating saned in
xinet.d and using the command "SANE_DEBUG_HPAIO=128 saned -d128") everything
seems to work fine.

Can anyone solve this mystery for me?
