Hi Im having a problem printing using HPLIP after installing.
OS: SUSE (open) 10.0
Printer: HP 3050
HPLIP: 2.7.7
I downloaded the 2.7.7 installer and run it following the
instructions/prompts. I was only prompted about ReportLab Missing (but dont
need fax anyway).
I restarted my machine and run the suggested 'hp-setup' and set up the
printer. however, trying to print a test page does not work. The job just
sits in the queue as 'Processing' and nothing happens.
when i use HP-Toolbox as normal user (the same use who run the installer) it
shows that it cannot communicate with the device. If i run this as root, then
it can communicate with the device and i can see the status etc in
HP-Toolbox. however; even running as root and apparently communicating with
the device im still not able to print a test page.
i've tried following some of the suggestions/mails/forums etc but nothing
seems to be exactly like my problem.
I've attached a 'hp-check -t' and a tail of /var/log/messages
A few things i noticed (which may have some bearing):
in the messages.log there is a repetative "invalid product id string:
operation not permitted"
and in the hp-check log there is a "Device node NOT
FOUND: /dev/bus/usb/005/004". which is correct as /005/004 is not there
but /5/4 is instead. (i've tried symlinking to match the requested path as
above but it does not make any difference). is this a SUSE thing?
Confused! can anybody help?
