Sure - scan.py seems straightforward enough to add to. I guess it's easy to get certain hplip devices to somehow invoke scan.py (so that my wife needn't remember its command line args :))? I'll have a scan through the sane/scanext modules scan.py uses to see. I guess if sane supports it, we can extend scan.py easily enough.
So an OJ 73xx would seem to fit the bill? I'd be happy to help if I end up going with an hplip supported printer.
