My scan problem WAS a dumb mistake on my part. After I got the preview, I neglected to select the portion of the image that I wanted scanned.
The only outstanding mystery now is the printers on the computers that are down showing up in the printer administration list. Sorry for all of the verbiage that wasn't even a problem.
