I might stick with MX for a while, used TLPUI to disable the PCIe Runtime 
powermanagement on battery and it has currently been up 42 minutes without the 
USB dying so may have stumbled onto it.  It kept changing back when I tried 
disabling USB suspend so I tried the PCIe option and seems to be working.  
Don't know what the PCIe stuff has to do with USB but maybe it uses the same 
power rail.   

I'm pretty sure I've tried Alpine before, did not like the busybox look 
although you probably change it.  I'll try it out again as a live and see how 
it does with the hardware.
