Is it better to record the exact audio, then leave the refining to the post processing stage?

In general, you should process your audio such that it sounds good to you before uploading. Do not rely on a remote platform to perform any additional "fixups" of your submission.

HPR post-processing is/was, and should hopefully return to, a volume normalization step such that all of the episodes have the same average loudness (-16 LUFS). That's appropriate for a podcast.

For my next episode I will be at home, where I have a much better microphone, but I am very happy to be advised how best to set up Audacity to do the recording.

In general, the best thing you can do for recording a podcast episode is not really tied to your audacity settings, but rather:

- The quality of your microphone (anything $50 and higher will be fine)
- The treatment of your room (avoid rooms with wood floors and stone walls as these create reflections (echo); rooms with carpet or treated walls are better) - Your technique (you should be within 6-12 inches away from your microphone, and not speak directly into it to avoid plosives)
