The decision who will be supported by GSoC over the summer depends on: 

- the quality of your proposal, which will be reviewed and ranked by the group 
against all other proposals we'll receive 
- the number of 'spots' google gives us this year (last year we had 5 students 
working for us, sponsored by google)
