A major overhaul of the JDBC metadata methods is underway, aiming at full JDBC 1 compliance and more. In the meantime we may introduce some individual enhancements including this one.
HSQLDB is moving towards a modular architecture. It would be useful if you could tell us whether you use HSQLDB as an applet or in another form, which has a major bearing on the size of the resultant Jar.
