In OpenOffice, there is StarBASIC and SDBC to JDBC api to access data 
from database.
We are planning on putting some personal type database into our office 
suite to demo
this function. And I want to contribute mainly for HSQLDB (let HSQLDB as 
our
data collector).
Also I'm thinking about adding more interface to connect to other 
database to preform
offline replication to HSQLDB, to offload reporting and spreed sheet 
modification will
not affect online DB.

e.g.    Office --->HSQLDB (Standalone) ----> Oracle, PostgreSQL ... etc
