This was largely a patent issue and while I'm sure it might have made an
interesting test case, at this point in my life, I have no desire to end
up in a long-drawn-out test case.

Right. But there's a difference between one user having no problems with a
patch and really getting down to the nitty gritty to make sure
everything's still happy. Plus when you put a patch into a release, people
assume that *other* patches may work with it...

Your points are good, but needless to say there's a different perspective
when you roll a release. :-)
