OK, I'll summarise what I've done, what I intend to do, and what I've
rejected. As for how close, I now doubt a final release before September.
I had hoped to have a pre-release ready before I go on vacation on the
30th, but that now seems not so likely. I only have 6 working days left,
as I've booked next week off for work around the house.
I hope that we can at least issue a snapshot or pre-pre-release before
month's end, to give a workout to what Geoff and I have done so far.

I also have a personal list of other fixes that I feel should go into
3.1.6, but it's too convoluted and scattered to summarise right now.
There were a number of issues in the bug database still to deal with,
and I want to backport some 3.2 HTML parser fixes as well.
