Personally I dont know what this user does wrong, or whether he does 
anything wrong, but it really looks like the db is in dire need of 
optimisation

Heh, you've got a sponsor? :-)
Htdig has been running now the whole night, since 18:00 yesterday, and
it still hasn't finished, now 9:00. So I would think the best thing to
do is to revert back to the older version until the htdig-people have
fixed their performance problems.
