In fact, if you use quotes for any attribute of type string or string
list, the quotes are included as part of the attribute definition.
It's only for quoted string list attributes that the quotes are
eventually stripped off. So, don't add an apostrophe or double quote to
extra_word_characters unless you want these to be treated as a permanent
part of a word.
The example for extra_word_characters in the attrs.html documentation
doesn't exactly make the format clear for when you want multiple
characters defined, but it's modelled after valid_punctuation, whose
example of usage and default value make the usage of both attributes
quite clear.
