Most search engines use various ranking functions based on things
like frequency of the queried word(s), position of the words in the
document (i.e. keywords are ranked higher, titles a bit lower, etc.)
There are also factors to bump more recent documents a bit higher in
the rankings (date_factor) and documents with more links pointing to
them (so called "backlinks," used by backlink_factor).
Some search engines (i.e. Google) also use the proximity of the words
queried in the document. At the moment, the 3.1 code doesn't store
any word location information, so this can't be used.
