I'd check the server logs to see what the error message is. Or try 
calling the CGI from the command-line to see if it runs successfully. 
Keep in mind that updated system libraries (e.g. libc or libstdc++) 
can certainly require updating binaries as well.

No, I don't think this is likely to be incorporated--to me it seems 
of interest only to certain sites. Is there a general interest for 
this, rather than what's currently done?
