I understand your needs, never meant that your idea wasn't good.
What I tried to point out is that
- htdig allows the users to configure which filters to use, and that is OK.
- Today, the filters expand the original query independently, and that may
be OK or not.
- If we intend to modify htsearch in order to allow chaining of these
filters, the consequent policy should be to leave the user the freedom to
choose by configuration how they will combine.

The same can be said about Spanish, French, Catalan w.r.t. English (AFAIK)
and Russian and lots of other languages (I guess); That's why IMHO the
language-related aspects of searching should allow a high degree of
flexibility.
