At the risk of sounding either techno-stupid or intellectually-deprived,
permit me to reply by saying that I have read the instructions to which
I have been cited:
--------
Configure
Once the distribution has been extracted, change to the newly created
directory.
In this directory you will need execute the configure program:
% ./configure
This program will attempt to determine what your particular system can
and can't do.
The configure program may produce some warnings about libguile and
guile. Ignore those warnings since they do not affect the ht://Dig program
at all.
After this, you may wish to edit the file CONFIG. There are several
values which you need to change in this file. Note that more recent
versions of ht://Dig (after 3.1.0b2) will allow you to use At
--------
The instructions plainly say that AFTER running ./configure "you may wish
to edit the file CONFIG."
Maybe I am missing sometyhing (perhaps reference to some other file)?
I believe you are suggesting that I edit CONFIG BEFORE running./configure,
is that correct?
Or is there some other file to edit before?
I have no problem with editing the CONFIG file first. In fact, I was about
to do so and try
re-installing.
However, I (in good faith) wanted to point this out in case you might like
to re-word the instructions,
if, indeed, you mean for CONFIG to be edited BEFORE running ./configure.
On the other hand, would I do better to simply use the beta, newer version,
3.2, perhaps avoiding
such dificulties? I am poised to do so, but just wanted to wait further
input and the
very generous and useful help received here, with appreciation.
One final point, would I need to delete everything and start over,
extracting anew? I figured
so, but just wanted to be sure.
Thanks.
