Very wierd. My first guess would be that the LC_CTYPE tables for the locale you're using are corrupt. Then again, it could be that you're using a compiled binary of htdig or htsearch that expects a different format for this file that what your system uses. So, the usual questions for info that ought to accompany any problem report: 1) What version of ht://Dig are you using? Did you compile it yourself or get a pre-compiled binary? Where did it come from? 2) What OS are you running this on? If it's Linux, which distribution? 3) What locale setting or other customizations did you make to your htdig.conf?
