OK, well that's a pretty key bit of information that was absent from your reports before. Setting local_urls_only to true means you're forcing htdig to work only within the very tight requirements imposed by the local_urls attribute. If your files don't have the right suffixes, or if they're not there, it'll tend to stop htdig dead in its tracks. That includes the index.html file, which must be there because htdig won't read directories itself. When local_urls_only is false, htdig will fall back to HTTP whenever a local fetch fails. ... > Here's "htdig -ivvv" with htdig.conf as "local_urls_only: true". > > 1:0:http://cdm01.deedsmiscentral.net/ > New server: cdm01.deedsmiscentral.net, 80 > Trying local files > tried local file > /var/www/html/,/usr/include/,/usr/X11R6/,/usr/lib/,/usr/share/,/usr/src/robots.txt > pushed > pick: cdm01.deedsmiscentral.net, # servers = 1 > 0:0:0:http://cdm01.deedsmiscentral.net/: Trying local files > tried local file > /var/www/html/,/usr/include/,/usr/X11R6/,/usr/lib/,/usr/share/,/usr/src/index.html > not found > pick: cdm01.deedsmiscentral.net, # servers = 1 > > In a different message I sent the results to you of "htdig -ivvv" with > htdig.conf as "local_urls_only: false". It's too large for the list. Well, obviously from the excerpt above, htdig tries local files and fails. You can see that the file names it's trying don't make a whole lot of sense. In the log you sent me separately, it was the same situation, except that htdig would then fall back to HTTP. > The following is the last two lines in htdig.conf: > > local_urls: > >http://cdm01.deedsmiscentral.net/=/var/www/html/,/usr/include/,/usr/X11R6/,/usr/lib/,/usr/share/,/usr/src/ > local_user_urls: > http://cdm01.deedsmiscentral.net/=/home/,/public_html/ Well, the local_urls setting is obviously wrong. You can see from the htdig output above that it uses the whole comma separated list as a single directory name. That should have been enough to make you suspect that perhaps local_urls doesn't allow a comma separated list of directory names, especially since there's abosolutely NOTHING in the documentation that suggests it would. Where did you get that idea anyway? Each mapping of URL=dir can only have one directory name. If you want htdig to try several directories for a given URL, you still need multiple URL=dir mappings. -- Gilles R.
