According to Ryan Spaulding: > Hello all, > When I do a search, a good number of the results don't have a title > in the results. They have the actual file name in brackets instead. > [filename.html] > However, when I look at the actual document for those results, there > is a valid title tag. Any ideas would be helpful at this point.
I can think of a couple possibilities: database corruption or htdig is just not seeing the tags for whatever reason. Try running htdig -ivvvv with the start_url set to just one of these HTML files, and see what htdig's parser puts out in the debugging output. If it's not seeing the title, and not reporting correctly what the title is, then have a closer look at the actual HTML code to see if you can see why. Are there improperly formatted HTML comments above the <title> and </title> tags? Is there inline JavaScript code that's not enclosed in HTML comments? If you need more eyes, just post a snippet of HTML or the URL of one of these files so others can have a look. On the other hand, if htdig is reporting the title correctly, try rebuilding your index from scratch and see if that solves the problem with htsearch. -- Gilles R.
