<sigh> I just poked around in the Berkeley DB code. I see this in the
3.1.x db/dist/configure script:
AC_ARG_ENABLE(bigfile,
        [  --disable-bigfile       Disable AIX, HP/UX, Solaris big
files.],
        [db_cv_bigfile="$enable_bigfile"], [db_cv_bigfile="yes"])

(Translation... you can disable bigfiles for AIX, HP/UX and Solaris. Which
implies that Linux bigfiles are not supported by this version of the
Berkeley DB code.)

I also looked in the 3.2 snapshot code--it looks like Linux support is
there, but it's not enabled unless you supply --enable-bigfile flag to
configure. I'm taking off for a conference this evening, but I'm marking
this to get set to ON when I get back. (I don't have a clue why it's not
set already.) Hopefully someone else may beat me to it.

Of course someone should *please* try a 3.2.0b4 snapshot compiled with
--enable-bigfile and see if it works.
